Dallas Morning News Covers The Gents Place

The Gents Place is not your father’s barbershop.

Customers won’t see a red-and-white pole out front or stare at combs sitting in Barbicide.

Local entrepreneur Ben Davis mixes high-tech with high touch. He uses social media to attract customers and market his “men’s grooming and lifestyle club.”

The Gents Place features lots of dark wood, leather and the Cadillac of barber chairs. The Frisco location offers beer, wine and whiskey. Another salon has a pool table.

“My vision was when you walk into our places, you should have no idea that you’re in a hair salon,” said Davis, 29. He opened the first location in Frisco in late 2008.

A second site came in 2010, when Davis bought an existing men’s salon near Kansas City, Missouri. Next month, he plans to open a third site in Dallas’ tony Preston Hollow neighborhood and perhaps a fourth location by mid-2013.
